Jambalaya! The Go On Girl Gazette
Our quarterly newsletter debuted in
1995 after that year's Annual Award Weekend. Historian Evalyn Hamilton,
then in the IL1 chapter, and Willette Hill, DC1, left the weekend
feeling like they just didn't have enough time to spend with all
of the fellow GOG's from across the country. When they got back
home they approached their respective chapter members, with the
idea of a way to stay connected throughout the year, and it wasn't
long before the first issue of Jambalaya! The Go On Girl
Gazette went in to production.
The quarterly newsletter was purposely
scheduled in conjunction with the start of each solar season,
and is distributed during these times to our members: The Autumnal
Equinox Issue (around September 22nd), Winter
Solstice Issue (around December 22nd), Vernal
Equinox Issue (around March 22nd) and The Summer
Solstice Issue (around June 21st) each year. The Editorial
Board is comprised of a coordinator and each chapter's designated
newsletter correspondent.
Jambalaya! seeks to promote
greater organizational unity. It is our way to stay connected BEYOND
the books we read. Here, we share our personal side: our accomplishments,
our business ventures, our trials and tribulations and much, much
more. Finally, it serves as an additional way for us to document
our lives and histories through our experiences as members.
| Mission Statement:
"To promote unity among our Club Members" |
Editorial Focus
We publish articles, critical essays, interviews, literary, film
and art reviews, resource listings, and our personal and professional
announcements. The content focuses on our experiences as book club
members, as readers, as Women and as African Descendents.
Editorial Process
Our content and production is managed by an Editorial Board and
a team of Contributing Editors. We use a blind review process and
welcome unsolicited information. Potential contributors are encouraged
to query the Editorial Board about upcoming themes and deadlines.
Editorial Preparation
We seek contributions from anyone interested in exchanging information
with our organization. We welcome both traditional and innovative
submissions. We reserve the right to edit as necessary, in accordance
with our space limitations and guidelines and in consultation with
the author.
